As we prepare to commission and second Annie into her role within the growing “More Than Peace” movement, I wish to express my gratitude for the huge impetus she has brought to CCK in calling us to engage with wider society and to be much more sensitive to the divisive attitudes and issues of justice that remain rooted in our society and even in our own hearts. It hasn’t been easy to grapple with some of these matters, but faithfulness to the Gospel requires us to do so.

Beyond that, Annie’s role on our team hasn’t just been about social concerns, but also about faith and about greater openness and sensitivity to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and about relationships of trust and grace.  We have received much from Annie in the two and a half years she has served on our staff and we hold her in honour for who she has been and what she has offered to us.

Of course, Annie is not disappearing. She retains a firm association with St. John’s Parish, and will continue to nurture and develop emerging pioneers in the churches of the Parish. Annie's work will also open opportunities for significant engagement in critical issues in our city through the More Than Peace movement, with which we are proud to be associated. I pray that it is a fruitful field of ministry for her.

On another note, our annual Week of Prayer takes place from the 4th to the 11th February. We will be publishing a schedule of all the activities of the week and encourage your wide involvement. There is such hidden power in prayer and we are facing a big year nationally, in Cape Town and as Christ Church, so let’s really cover it in prayer.

Warmest blessings
